What’s that Mr. McCain?

I guess we’ll just chalk this one up to another senior moment?

“You know, I think you may have noticed that Senator Obama’s supporters have been saying some pretty nasty things about Western Pennsylvania lately,” McCain told the audience in the town of Moon Township. “And you know, I couldn’t agree with them more…”

Senior Moment?

Today John Mccain addressed the crowd as “My Fellow Prisoners”…

I know he is always looking to play the P.O.W. card but does he have to make it so obvious?

Another Major Foreign Policy Gaffe by McCain

Posted in Misspeaks, Read for Yourself with tags , , , , on September 27, 2008 by doubletalkexpress

Tonight John McCain claimed that Pakistan’s former president Pervez Musharraf’s military coup came as a result of Pakistan being a “failed state.”

Max Burgmann points out that for someone who claims foreign policy to be his strong point McCain’s lack of understanding of this subject is unacceptable:

Musharraf took power in a military coup in 1999 when he diposed Nawaz Sharif – who recently participated in the latest election. The coup followed the 1999 war in Kashmir with India and was due to a power struggle with Sharif, not due to Pakistan being a “failed state.” The United States did not welcome the Musharraf coup. Instead the government of the United States imposed sanctions against this action.

Remember Pakistan had nuclear weapons in 1999. Did McCain believe that there was a failed state that possessed nuclear weapons? If he did he showed no concern at the time. The fact is McCain made a huge gaffe and demonstrated he has little understanding if the region.

Mr. Foreign Policy Gets It Wrong Again

Another misspeak?  Another senior moment?  Or does just not really know what he’s talking about?

With these types of comments, it’s no wonder why Russia does not take the United States seriously.  Prime Minister Putin has already taken a very condescending tone towards the U.S. throwing our 21st century invasion of Iraq back in our face every chance he gets.  I guess this is something John McCain has missed or he might have chosen his words more carefully.

But then again he isn’t very good with words is he?

McCain’s Greatest Hits / Senior Moments

I will be away from this blog for the next few days as I make my way back to the states from vacationing in Asia. Meanwhile, I’m sure McCain will continue to demonstrate daily just how much more of the same if not worse he would be as a president. For now I will leave you with this video from Talking Points Memo. Thanks for pointing this one out to me Bruce.

Just Another Gaffe? McCain Gets His Facts on Iraq Wrong Again?

Posted in Misspeaks, Watch for Yourself with tags , , , , , on July 23, 2008 by doubletalkexpress

It seems like the gaffes keep getting bigger. In an interview on CBS John McCain again proved that he really isn’t in top shape when it comes to the area that is supposed to be his strength, foreign policy. More than a simple misspeak, McCain stated that the Anbar / Sunni Awakening in Iraq came as a result of the surge. In fact however, the “Awakening” began in September, 2006 according to Col. Sean McFarland (writing in the Military Review March-April 2008). The military surge didn’t begin until January 10th 2008.

Some of you might have missed this gaffe because it was edited out of the CBS interview as you will see in the video below. However, it was picked up on by CNN where John McCain’s camp was able to attempt to respond.

Another Geography Lesson Needed For John Mccain?

The Iraq / Pakistan border? I know simple mistake right? It could happen to anybody…but I don’t want just anybody as my next president. How much does John McCain really know about this region? He has proven several times not to understand the history between the Shia and the Sunni, or the difference between Persians and Arabs.

Yes, it was a simple misspeak but he needs to be on point with these things. And the fact that he seems to have these misspeaks at least once or twice a week is something that should be considered.

One Day Later, McCain Again Mispeaks About Country That No Longer Exists

Yesterday I wrote about how John McCain continues reference Czechoslovakia. Well, he did it again today after I’m sure having been corrected by his foreign policy advisers.

Another Mispeak?

I love how he goes on to lie instead of admitting his mistake as if youtube didn’t exist…

Another Uninformed Foreign Policy Statement…

Can you hear me now?

Can you hear me now?

In a press conference yesterday, John McCain seemed to have another senior moment when he stated that he was concerned about Russia’s recent actions towards Czechoslovakia. It seems that Mr. McCain forgot that there is no longer a Czechoslovakia and hasn’t been for over 15 years now.

Today’s misspeak marks the fifth time on record he has incorrectly spoke about Czechoslovakia. This along with his several comments about Iran training Al Queda show just how out of touch John McCain is when it comes to foreign policy.

Press Availability, July 14th, 2008

“I was concerned about a couple of steps that the Russian government took in the last several days. One was reducing the energy supplies to Czechoslovakia. Apparently that is in reaction to the Czech’s agreement with us concerning missile defense, and again some of the Russian now announcement they are now retargeting new targets, something they abandoned at the end of the Cold War, is also a concern.”

WABC Radio “Imus in the Morning, April 2nd, 2008

“I Would Work Closely With Czechoslovakia and Poland on European Missile Shield.”

Fox Republican Primary Debate, October 21st, 2007

“The first thing I would do is make sure that we have a missile defense system in place in
Czechoslovakia and Poland, and I don’t care what his objections are to it.”

IRI Dinner, 1999
At IRI Dinner, McCain “Twice Thanked the Ambassador From ‘Czechoslovakia’ For His Efforts.”
(There was no Ambassador of Czechoslovakia in 1999)

McCain suggested NATO be expanded to include Czechoslovakia.
