John McCain Doesn’t Know How Many Houses He Owns; Says People Who Make Less Than $5 mil Are Not Rich

When Pushed to Define rich recently at the Saddleback church forum, John McCain said “If your just talking about income, how about $5 million.”  Today when asked how many homes he owns he said he wasn’t sure and would have to ask his staff.  Both of these statements come after his continued claims that the economy is fundamentally strong.

  1. PLEASE put statements in context! McCain’s comment about under $5 mil not being rich came in the context of him saying that he does not want to raise ANYONE’S taxes, even the rich! He was joking that if “rich” was the criteria for raising taxes, then $5 mil would do, since he doesn’t want to raise taxes on anyone!

Ahh yes. He was only joking. How could I forgot about his sense of humor. While we are putting things in context I noticed on your blog that you are using an article written by Americans For Tax Reform…a partisan group aligned with the republican party. No where on your blog did you mention that Obama’s plan would not raise taxes on anyone making less than $250K / year.

If you think eliminating pork and regulating government spending (as all republicans claim while running and 0 have delivered on) is good enough to get our struggling middle class back on their feet then your missing something.

CNN covers the numbers released by the non-partisan Tax Policy Center pretty straight forwardly. You can see it here:

  3. doubletalk, don’t you know the plan is the attack Obama for raising taxes on everyone to the highest level since Soviet Russia controlled the White House?

Except when they attack him for wanting to lower the taxes for seniors making less than $50,000?

And avoiding the point that McCain is open to higher social security taxes on everyone?

Get with the program! It’s now the triple talk express!

  4. Hi double…

All anyone has to do is watch the interview to see that McCain’s comment about what is “rich” was in no way serious! Get a sense of humor!

And on the tax issue I listed on my blog – you obviously had some facts on the sources that I did not, and I’m more than willing to admit that possibility. I’m looking forward to looking over your information more closely!

Hey thanks for the reply Carey,
Friends would tell you that I have a pretty good since of humor. I did come back at you a little hard only because of all of the ridiculous lies being put out there. You wouldn’t believe all of the Barack Hussein Osama Anti-Christ scared out of their shorts wackos I have had to deal with. I’m sure you’ve gotten the emails and came across the different blogs.

For people who are reading this, Carey has a very nice and thought provoking Christian blog. I have enjoyed reading his posts.

It is fair to argue that John McCain was trying to make another joke with his five million dollar comment. But if your like me who has had to move across the country because the job market at home has been devastated by Bush / McCain economics (they are essentially the same) it’s just not funny anymore. It’s not funny to think that a man who voted with Bush 95% of the time might become our next president. People are hurting and all we hear from McCain is that the “foundation of our economy is strong” and that this is all some how “psychological”.

I just don’t see how McCain’s admitted ignorance on the economy, hawkish foreign policy, and pandering character is what this country needs.

    Anyway, thanks for posting.
