John McCains Credibility Issue
ABC news reporter Z. Byron Wolf pointed out today that in the last two years John McCain has failed to attend any Afghanistan related senate hearings. That’s right ZERO. McCain is the top ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Service Committee which has held six hearings on Afghanistan in the last two years. John McCain has missed them all:
March 4, 2008, and May 3, 2007– missed the hearings with Adm. William Fallon, then the CentCom commander, with authority over Afghanistan
June 7, 2007 – missed hearing on the nomination of Gen. Douglas Lute to be the White House war czar with oversight over Afghanistan.
Feb. 14, 2008– missed hearing on Afghanistan strategy with representatives from the State Department and Marine Lt. Gen. John Sattler.
April, 10, 2008 – missed hearing on the war in Iraq and the “situation in Afghanistan” where Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs Chairman Michael Mullen both testified.
Feb. 6, 2008 – missed the hearing where the committee considered the fiscal year request for authorizations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The fact that John McCain missed these important hearings on Afghanistan set up by his own comitee further brings to light his overall poor attendance in the Senate. Since January of 2007 he has missed over 60% of the votes cast, more than any of the other presidential canidates.
Souce: The Washington Post
While senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinto took time out of campaigning for major votes, John McCain has not voted in the Senate since April 8th, 2008.
